Summary: The hardest ball ever made 2010-01-17
Comment: My review is of the OLD Columbia Blue Dot, before they changed the logo on the ball and maybe even the coverstock slightly. I know for sure that Columbia changed the coverstock of their popular White Dot circa 1999. The original White Dot came out in the 1960s and was an excellent ball for dry lanes. It had a predictable reaction to the lane surface and would hook if you made it hook. It was also good for shooting spares. Then around 1999 Columbia changed the coverstock and basically changed it into a "spare ball" that only skids down the lane, good to shoot spares with, but not as good on dry lanes.
The Blue Dot that I own? It's the hardest ball ever made (a hardness of 90 on the durometer) and excellent for shooting spares. When it first came out several decades ago it was for super bone dry lanes and could hook if you made it, but people used it mostly for spare shooting because it skids down the lane and grabs the lane very little. I used the Blue Dot for many years. Great ball. I still use it occasionally. Now I use Brunswick's white Viz-A-Ball.
If you want an excellent ball to shoot spares with exclusively, then the Blue Dot is an excellent ball.

Summary: Best Spare Ball Ever 2009-06-05
Comment: The Blue Dot has been around forever, and there is a reason for that, this thing is the best spare ball ever made. It is one of the hardest balls ever, so it hooks very little, even with a lot of spin. This ball is a staple of most ball arsenals, you will not regret getting one!

Summary: Great for straight shots 2009-04-16
Comment: I love this ball, I got it for my spares overall works great on all lane conditions but for me it curves a little bit when I use it on really oily lanes, but nothing that can't be controlled.
